PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 could be a LAN event, here's why

In January 2022, Tencent announced the 2022 PUBG Mobile Esports roadmap , which consists of two global tournaments, the Mid Season Invitational and the Global Championship However, the company has not yet announced the overall prize pool of the year. The 2021 season boasted a massive $14 million prize pool, which is $6 million of PMGC's total prize pool.

The first PMGC event held in 2020 featured a total of $2 million in prize money and was won by Chinese team Nova Esports. Initially, the event's grand finals were scheduled for the LAN event at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, UAE, but teams played after three of their hotel rooms tested positive for COVID-19.

2021 was also a turning point for Nova Esports as they once again put on a stellar performance and won the semi-LAN event PMGC due to the COVID-19 pandemic and security restrictions. The team was rewarded with a $1.5 million winner's prize. Interestingly, the 2021 season also saw the debut of Indian teams that qualified with their local versions (BGMI).

The title was also included in the 2022 Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China.
